Case Study: How we helped Tayla relocate from South Africa to Australia

We spoke with Monique Pawloski, an Executive Recruitment Consultant from our Executive Retail Sydney office, who shared insights into her experience assisting her candidate Tayla, make the leap from South Africa to Australia in pursuit of new opportunities.

Q: How did you meet Tayla?
A: “She reached out to our agency, Frontline Executive Retail, about an advertised role at the beginning of 2023. Originally from South Africa she was eager to build a life in Australia.”
Q: What was Tayla looking for in her job search?
A: “Tayla had extensive Merchandise Planning experience within the Retail industry and was determined to break into the Australian market.”
Q: Can you describe Tayla’s interview process and relocation journey?
A: “After an initial interview, the company she originally applied for had reached their sponsorship limit, so were unable to hire her at that time. But three months later another role popped up at the same company and Tayla applied. Following a rigorous interview process, both parties knew they’d found the right match. Tayla relocated to Australia later that year after undergoing the sponsorship process, proving that patience pays off!”
Q: How did you assist Tayla in making the move from South Africa to Australia?
A: “I provided Tayla with comprehensive advice, covering everything from sponsorship considerations to practical tips on banking, accommodation, transportation, salary expectations, and insights into the best beaches in Sydney of course!”

Q: Your biggest tip for anyone wanting to move to Australia?
A: “Connect with a recruiter early in your job search. Understand that the sponsorship process takes time, sometimes months, so patience is key. Additionally, seek guidance from immigration experts to navigate the complexities of relocation.”
Q: Any additional advice for prospective migrants to Australia?
A: “It’s essential to familiarise yourself with local terminologies and job titles as they can differ from country to country. A recruiter can talk you through this and give you insights into the local market, salaries, and how your skills can transfer to the Australian Market. Have a concise resume prepared (we can also help with this) and be upfront about your sponsorship needs when applying.“
